The Beginner Program is a course for the beginner or intermediate woodworker to build on basic skills to move into bigger projects.
Participants will be guided through projects such as the Charcuterie Board, Trinket Box Making and Custom Bench Stool.
Charcuterie Board - held over 10-weeks on Saturdays in 3 hour classes. Cost: $435 (all timber included)
Trinket Box Making - held over 10-weeks on Saturdays in 3 hour classes. Cost: $475 (all timber/fixings included)
Custom Bench Stool - held over 10-weeks on Saturdays in 5 hour classes. Cost: $575 + Discount cards available to purchase Timber Packs at Corrimal Hobby Timber.
Participants will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in a variety of woodworking tasks and techniques.
These courses are designed for people with little to no experience in woodworking skills.
The courses provide an introduction to woodworking, with a strong focus on safety, tools, machinery and basic skills.
Objectives:
Safety First: Understanding and implementing woodworking safety protocols, including proper tool usage, protective gear, and workshop organisation.
Wood Selection: Exploring different types of wood, their characteristics, and how to select the appropriate wood for various projects.
Measuring and Marking: Developing skills in measuring and marking techniques, which are essential for accurate and professional woodworking.
Joinery Techniques: Learning the fundamental principles of various joinery methods.
Cutting and Shaping: Practical experience in using saws, chisels, planes, and machinery to cut and shape wood.
Finishing and Sanding: Understanding the finishing process, includes, sanding and applying protective finishes to create polished final projects.
Project: Applying the skills and techniques learned to complete beginner-level woodworking projects.
At the end of these Courses, participants will have the knowledge and experience to tackle basic woodworking projects with confidence in our DIY Workshop Access Programs

Do It Yourself Workshop Access Program provides the experienced woodworker with a place to design, create and complete woodworking projects in a safe and fully equipped workshops.
Work at your own pace with plenty of advice available to assist. Full access to machinery, hand tools and large bench space.
Held over 9-weeks on a Friday in 3 hour classes - equivalent to 27 hours hands-on.
Held over 10-weeks on a Saturday in 3 hour classes - equivalent to 30 hours hands-on.
Cost: $400 - participants to provide own quality timber for their projects. (Discount cards available at Corrimal Hobby Timber)
Held at two locations - Five Islands Secondary College, Port Kembla and the "state of the art" Corrimal High School Industrial Arts Centre.

"Learn to Turn" is a course for the beginner or intermediate wood turner.
Held over 9-weeks on Fridays in 3 hour classes - equivalent to a 27 hour hands-on woodturning adventure.
Held over 10-weeks on Saturdays in 3 hour classes - equivalent to a 30 hour hands-on woodturning adventure.
Overview: This course highlights the fundamentals of wood turning allowing participants to build on the basic skills to move into bigger projects. Participants will be guided through spindle turning, bowl turning and mandrel turning for 6 projects, creating items such as cutlery handles, rolling pins, bud vases, bowls, lidded boxes and pepper grinders.
After completing the 6 projects and time permitting, the participant can explore other woodturning projects under the guidance of the instructor.
All specialised tools and consumables provided.
Cost: $412.50 for course content which includes use of machines, provision of specialised tools and consumables. Recommended material lists are provided to participants (plus a discount card at Corrimal Hobby Timber) OR alternatively material packs available to purchase covering the basics of the course starting at $128 for the first 6 projects.
